Divisions & Match Time Limits (all matches are single elimination.

In case of a tie, there will be a one (1) minute overtime):

 

Beginner: One, 4-minute round

*Less than 18 months of any type grappling experience with no major tournament wins.

 

Intermediate: One, 5-minute round 

*18 - 36 months of any type grappling experience. 

 

Advanced: One, 6-minute round

*More than 36 months of any type grappling experience.

 

(Women's divisions only - Advanced: *18 months or more any type grappling experience)

 

Absolute: One 6-minute round

Open to all weights and skill levels

 

NO SANDBAGGERS!

Previous advanced division competitors may not compete in beginner or intermediate divisions.  

 

Previous beginner or intermediate division winners must compete at the next higher skill level.  

 

*Grappling experience means any wrestling art, including but not limited to:

 wrestling, submission wrestling, judo, jiu-jitsu, sambo.

Fighters Equipment:

Fighters may wear any of the following apparel: fighter-type shorts, wrestling singlet, judo or jiu-jitsu style kimono.

 

Optional Equipment:

Wrestling shoes, kneepads, t-shirts, mouth guards, groin protectors.


 

Illegal Techniques:

1. No striking of any kind.

2. No biting.

3. No hair pulling.

4. No finger locks.

5. No eye gouging.

6. No hands or elbows to the throat (forearm to the throat is allowed).

7. No oily, greasy or slippery substances on any portion of the fighter's body or equipment.

8. No dropping or slamming an opponent on their head.

9. No grabbing or holding an opponent's shorts or wrestling singlet.

10. Stalling.

11. Deliberately trying to injure your opponent.

12. No arguing with match officials, cursing or unsportsmanlike conduct.

13. New rule: No heel-hook submissions in beginner divisions.

 

*The referee, tournament director, or commissioner, may disqualify a competitor for displaying unsportsmanlike conduct. This includes undue interference from a competitor’s coach/ trainer or teammates. The referee has total control of the match and his decision is final.

 

*Competitors may appeal legitimate objections to judgments affecting the outcome of their match.  All appeals shall be in the form of a written statement to the Pancrase Commissioner. Oral appeals made to referees, judges, or other officials will not be considered.

Match Rules:

1. All fighters must weigh-in, and compete in their respective weight/skill divisions (under 18 may compete with written permission from a legal guardian).

 

Fighters who have previously fought in the advanced division may not compete in beginner or intermediate divisions. 

 

All fighters may also compete in the Absolute/Open weight/skill division.

 

2. The promoter reserves the right to combine divisions.

 

3. Fighters will follow all commands from the referee.

 

4. All matches begin from the standing position.

 

5. Fighters who go out-of-bounds will be restarted in the center of the ring/mat, in a position determined by the referee.

 

6. If fighters become stalled or deadlocked, the referee may re-start the match from the standing position.

 

7. All grappling techniques; throws, chokeholds, and joint locks are permitted expect those that are listed as illegal techniques.

 

8. Fighters may grab, hold, or utilize any portion of their opponent's clothing except the shorts or wrestling singlet.

 

9. The referee may stop a match at any time if a fighter is in imminent danger of injury. 

 

10. A fighter may give-up (tap-out) and concede defeat at any time during a match by tapping their hand or foot, two (2) times, on the opponent's body or the mat. A fighter may also give-up verbally by saying, "STOP", to the referee and the opponent.    


 

Ways to Win - Scoring

 

Submission:  Force your opponent to give-up, tap-out, or verbally indicate defeat, through the use of legal submission wrestling techniques; chokeholds, arm bars, knee bars, neck cranks, foot locks, throws, etc.   

 

Awarded Points:  

Mount position:................2 points


Back mount with hooks:...3 points


Passing the guard:...........3 points


Knee on stomach:............2 points


Sweeps:..........................2 Points


Clean Take down:.............4 points 

(Ends with opponent on back, in Side Control or Mount)


Take down:......................2 points 

(Ends in Guard, Half Guard or opponent on stomach)

* Each position must be established for 3 seconds or more in order for points to be awarded. 


*When changing multiple positions, points will be awarded only for the position that has been established for 3 seconds or more. 

*Reversals are considered Sweeps as well. 

 

Penalties:  

The following actions will result in a -1 point penalty: 

 

*If a fighter voluntarily jumps into the guard, or goes from a standing position to a non-standing position, by any means, and remains down for 3 seconds or more.

 

*If a fighter disengages from contact and backs up so as to avoid engagement.

 

*A passive fighter will be warned twice and then receive a -1 point penalty point. The referee will warn the passive fighter by using the words "WARNING FOR PASSIVITY".
