Wrestling will be contested all three days (June 13-15) and judo will be contested on June 13-14. There will be two sessions each day.

On Friday, June 13, the schedule includes seven judo weight classes, four women’s freestyle weight classes and two men’s Greco-Roman weight classes.

On Saturday, June 14, the schedule features seven judo weight classes, three men’s freestyle weight classes and three men’s Greco-Roman weight classes.

On Sunday, June 15, there will be scheduled four men’s freestyle weight classes and two men’s Greco-Roman weight classes. No judo will be contested on June 15.

If there are judo weight divisions that the United States has not been qualified to compete in at the Olympic Games, the division will not be contested at Trials.

USA Wrestling expects almost 200 wrestlers to participate in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

"We are very excited about what promises to be an outstanding U.S. Olympic Team Trials. This is the most important event we host in the United States every four years, where we select our Olympic Team, which competes in the most important sports event in the world, the Olympic Games,” said USA Wrestling Executive Director Rich Bender. “We look forward to holding the competition in Las Vegas, and having a great turnout by the wrestling community to support America's Team."

With eight athletes expected to compete in the Trials for each weight division, as many as 112 judo players will be eligible for berths on the U.S. Olympic Team.

"These will no doubt be one of the most exciting Olympic Trials in the history of USA Judo. Las Vegas is one of the world's most exciting places to host a sporting event; top that with the fact that we are combining our sport of Judo with a proven popular sport of wrestling that has in the past attracted over 11,000 spectators and some 200 media to previous events,” said Jose H. Rodriguez, USA Judo CEO. “Lastly add to this equation the partnership with Las Vegas Events and the United States Olympic Committee and you have the making of a great athlete-oriented and entertaining sport show in the best show town in the world.”

6-12-2007

Denver, CO

Six-Time Emmy Award Winning Producers—Planet Grande—Take Viewers Inside The Lives of MMA Legends and Champions in Preview of Spectacular Fight Card

Friday, June 22, in San Jose, Calif. HP Pavilion Will Host Mega-Fight Card Live on Pay-Per-View With Undercard Bouts To Be Streamed Live at ProElite.com

Exclusive access, never-before-seen footage and explosive rivalries all define “Countdown To Shamrock vs. Baroni,” a 30-minute magazine show set to premier on SHOWTIME on Tuesday, June 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT. “Countdown” explores the highly anticipated world championship mixed martial arts showdown between former UFC middleweight king, Frank Shamrock, and UFC and Pride Fighting Championship veteran, “The New York Bad Ass” Phil Baroni. (For complete schedule of airings go to www.sho.com/schedule)

The 14-match mega fight card will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on Friday, June 22, and will feature Shamrock vs. Baroni in the main event with up to five other matches airing live on SHOWTIME® PPV (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT). As many as five undercard bouts will be streamed live at ProElite.com while a few bouts will be reserved for those in attendance at the “Shark Tank.”

“Countdown” will take you inside the training camps for an exclusive look at the first-degree grudge match between the crafty and versatile legend Shamrock (frankshamrock.proelite.com, strikeforceusa.net) and the power-punching and edgy New Yorker with a bad attitude Baroni (strikeforceusa.net, philbaroni.proelite.com). At stake for both fighters are the coveted Strikeforce Middleweight World Title and their respective reputations. The pair has engaged in a veritable war of words since long before this match had been officially announced.

Also featured on “Countdown” will be in-depth interviews and exclusive training camp sessions previewing the EliteXC/Strikeforce fight between Joey “Dreamsmasher” Villasenor (joeyvillasenor.proelite.com, strikeforceusa.net) and Murilo “Ninja” Rua (strikeforceusa.net, murilorua.proelite.com), and the long awaited rematch between Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett (krazyhorse.proelite.com, strikeforceusa.net) and Victor “Joe Boxer” Valenzuela (joeboxer.proelite.com, strikeforceusa.net).

“Their last fight was a barn-burner,” said John Watkin, executive producer for Planet Grande Pictures, of the “Krazy Horse” – “Joe Boxer” fight. “It ended in a draw despite the fact that Krazy Horse was unconscious on his back at the end of the fight.”

Other bouts profiles include Cung Le (strikeforceusa.net, cungle.proelite.com) versus Tony “The Freak” Fryklund (strikeforceusa.net, tonyfryklund.proelite.com) and Paul “Head Hunter” Buentello (strikeforceusa.net, paulbuentello.proelite.com) versus Carter “The Beast” Williams (strikeforceusa.net, carterwilliams.proelite.com).

“Planet Grande has taken the collective vision of EliteXC, Strikeforce and SHOWTIME and put together a compelling and revealing show. They were able to convey the power and the tangibility of these athletes in a first-rate television production. We couldn’t be happier,” said Doug DeLuca, CEO of ProElite, Inc., the parent company of EliteXC.

EliteXC president Gary Shaw said, “This is a long-anticipated fight that the world of Mixed Martial Arts has been looking forward to with great anticipation and EliteXC is very excited to have an award-winning production company telling the story.”

”Countdown to Shamrock vs. Baroni” is produced by Eamon Harrington and John Watkin at Planet Grande Pictures, and presented by EliteXC and Strikeforce. Planet Grande’s Emmy Award-winning work has been seen on programs such as “Shades of a Single Protein,” a documentary on racism, hosted by Oprah Winfrey. Other shows include “World Series of Blackjack,” “Sex Bytes” for HBO, VH1’s “Crazy World of Juliette Lewis” and doc/concert series, “Two Hour Tour.” They are also responsible for some of television’s most highly rated shows like “Oprah Talks to Michael Jackson.” John Watkin describes the “Countdown” show as an “explosive barrage of punches, kicks, and curses, from two headliners who truly hate each other.”

”Behind the scenes footage, explosive action and serious trash talk: ‘Countdown to Shamrock vs. Baroni has it all,’” said Ken Hershman, senior vice president and general manager of Sports Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. “Ever since the fight card was announced, the MMA community has responded with excitement and anticipation for this event. This countdown show will fan the flames as we prepare for a great night of television on Friday, June 22.”

IFL NEWS - Vetell, Horwich, Hallman To Compete For Spots on First-Ever USA Grappling Team
6-7-2007

Denver. CO

The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s number one team-based professional mixed martial arts league, will have three athletes competing this weekend at the USA Wrestling Grappling World Team Trials at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, with the winners going on to the Wrestling World Games in Antalya, Turkey in September. The trio, New York Pitbulls heavyweight Bryan Vetell (Hempstead, N.Y.), Portland Wolfpack middleweight Matt Horwich (Portland, Ore.) and Wolfpack assistant coach Dennis Hallman (Yelm, Wash.), all won qualifying events to reach this weekend’s competition.

“This will be an exciting opportunity for these three athletes to use the grappling skills they have learned as part of their Mixed Martial Arts training and see if they can go on to represent the United States in this historic event,” said Kurt Otto, IFL co-founder and commissioner. “This competition, combined with the clinic we will be doing during the weekend is a great next step in our partnership with USA Wrestling.”

• Vetell is a Hofstra University graduate and Long Island native who has competed for Renzo Gracie’s Pitbulls, training out of the Gracie Academy in Manhattan, during the inaugural IFL season.

• Horwich is a Portland native who has excelled under the tutelage of Olympic silver medalist for the Wolfpack. Most recently he knocked out the Tokyo Sabres’ Kaz Hamanaka in a bout in Everett, Washington.

• Hallman is a UFC and IFL veteran who is one of the most skilled grapplers in MMA. The Washington native has been working with Matt Lindland’s Wolfpack team.

In addition to the athletes competing, the IFL will be holding two clinics on Saturday and Sunday as part of the USA Wrestling Fan Fest. The three competing athletes, and Lindland, as well as the Los Angeles Anacondas’ Jay Hieron and Alex Schoenauer, Reno Lions’ Roy Nelson and others are scheduled to appear, demonstrate grappling techniques as they apply to both MMA and wrestling.

Currently no less than 30% of IFL coaches and athletes come from a wrestling background, many with international and college success. They include Olympic medalist Matt Lindland (Nebraska), two-time Olympian Dan Henderson, past national champion Don Frye (Arizona State) and current athletes Wayne Cole (Oklahoma), Orville Newton (Oklahoma), Jay Hieron (Nassau Community College and Hofstra University), Gerald Harris (Cleveland State), Ryan McGivern (Iowa), Mike Whitehead (Missouri), Aaron Stark (Wisconsin), Ryan Schultz (Nebraska), Reese Andy (Wyoming), Shad Lierley (NYU) and others.

NO HOLDS BARRED: John Perretti on Rampage-Liddell 2, UFC & Extreme Fighting Old & New

5-29-2007

Denver, CO

http://nhbnews.podOmatic.com/entry/eg/2007-05-28T19_58_48-07_00

On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman once again speaks with a true pioneer and legend in mixed martial arts, and an old friend: John Perretti.

We discuss this past Saturday's TKO victory by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in his rematch with Chuck Liddell at UFC 71; John's role in the development of the basic structure of MMA in introducing rounds and weight classes and helping design the gloves used in the sport; some lessons from the early days of Extreme Fighting and UFC; his views on technique and conditioning in MMA today; and a hint of what his immediate plans are.

For those new to the sport, John Perretti was one of the founders and the matchmaker of Battlecade Extreme Fighting, which ran from 1995 to 1997, and put on some classic shows. After that, he became the matchmaker for the UFC until January 2001.

Also, make sure to check out my weekly boxing show, SecondsOut Radio. On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, we begin by previewing the fight between the colorful and controversial WBO heavyweight champ, Brooklyn's Shannon Briggs (48-4-1, 42 KOs), and Russia's Sultan Ibragimov (20-0-1, 17 KOs), a 2000 Olympic silver medalist. This title bout will take place Saturday, June 2, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and be shown on pay-per-view TV. We next speak with another colorful Brooklyn fighter, Paulie Malignaggi (22-1, 5 KOs). He will be fighting the IBF junior welterweight champ Lovemore N'dou (45-8-1, 30 KOs) in a title fight Saturday, June 16, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and on HBO in the U.S. We spoke with Paulie by phone about what to expect in this fight, what he learned from his sole loss last year to Miguel Cotto, and whom he would like to fight after N'dou. DUANE LUDWIG to appear on STRIKE FORCE Pay Per View event
SPONSORSHIPS AVAILABLE!!
5-23-2007

Denver, CO

8_lg.jpg (25514 bytes)

Denver, Colorado based fighter Duane BANG! Ludwig is currently offering sponsorship opportunities for his upcoming STRIKEFORCE PPV appearance.

Superpowers will go head to head when K-1 and UFC veteran and Strikeforce fan favorite, Duane "Bang" Ludwig, faces EliteXC's British Cage Rage champion, Paul "Semtex" Daley, in a 170-pound limit matchup during "Shamrock vs. Baroni," live on June 22, at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The mega-MMA fight card, being co-produced by EliteXC and Strikeforce, will be headlined by the long-awaited showdown between former UFC middleweight king, Frank Shamrock, and UFC and Pride veteran, "The New York Badass" Phil Baroni, plus five other explosive bouts airing live on pay-per-view.

"It will be a tough fight for sure," said the 28-year-old Ludwig of Denver, Colorado. "Both of us bring an action-packed fighting style to the cage so we match up in the crowd's favor. It will probably be the fight of the night."

With his crowd pleasing, toe-to-toe fighting style that stems largely from his background in Muay Thai, Ludwig, the reigning International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) World Junior Middleweight Muay Thai Champion, has given mixed martial arts fans some memorable moments, including his willful run to victory over Japan's Genki Sudo during UFC 42. On January 16th 2006, Ludwig returned to the octagon and stopped Jonathan Goulet in a mere 11 seconds with a hard right hand to the chin that put the Canadian on his back. During Strikeforce's last card at the HP Pavilion on December 8th, Ludwig delivered a near flawless performance as he hammered away relentlessly with his hands and feet at Tony "The Freak" Fryklund . A former member of Team Pat Miletich, Fryklund was impressively resilient until he was sent to the mat for the third time in the fight by a Ludwig right hand, which prompted the referee to stop the bout at the 3:37 mark of the third round.

Four and a half years ago, Bang was taken under the wing of mixed martial arts legend, Bas Rutten, who observed the young fighter's talent and fighting spirit during a muay thai kickboxing event in which Ludwig was competing. Soon after the two bonded, Ludwig made his first big mark in mixed martial arts by knocking out former UFC 155 pound limit champion, Jens "Little Evil" Pulver.

Mixed Martial Arts is the fastest growing, most exciting business opportunity in the world.

All interested potential sponsors are encouraged to contact Sven Bean, Ludwig's business manager at 303-246-5237 or via e-mail at
beanz4@msn.com.

(LOS ANGELES) - Continuing its growing number of alliances and partnerships within the world of combat, ProElite.com, the comprehensive and inclusive online community for MMA (mixed martial arts) fighters, fans and organizations, announced today its exclusive licensing and content partnership with MMA media and retail company, OnTheMat (OTM).

During this multi-year commitment, ProElite.com will use its comprehensive user tools for the MMA community to enhance OTM’s world famous grappling fight brand through promoting its retail fight gear and clothing business and its online destination, OnTheMat.com. The two companies will share resources including OTM’s database of fighters and fight schools and ProElite.com’s database of registered users. In addition, ProElite.com will leverage OTM’s thousands of hours of grappling event videos for programming and promotional purposes.

“Scotty Nelson has built one of the most iconic and authentic businesses in our industry,” said Kelly Perdew, President of ProElite.com. “Scotty Nelson and his brand are world renowned and his partnership with ProElite.com opens up a rich pipeline of grappling content featuring some of the biggest names in MMA, as well as branding possibilities for our organization and MMA fans.”

I am anxious to tap into the vast network that ProElite.com provides.”

ProElite.com’s brand neutrality in growing the MMA sport is demonstrated by its recent deals. On Friday, May 25, beginning at 4 pm PST (7 p.m. EST), ESPNEWS, the nation’s only 24-hour sports news television network, will present live coverage of the weigh-ins for UFC 71: LIDDELL vs. JACKSON featuring UFC World Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This will mark the first time a major national sports television network will feature live event coverage of the UFC weigh-ins. ESPNEWS anchor David Lloyd will host the network’s coverage from ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. studios.

The next day, in what will be the mega-fight of the summer, Liddell will meet Jackson for the second time in an attempt to avenge his loss to the last man who defeated him. Liddell will face his greatest challenge to date when The Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization presents UFC 71: LIDDELL vs. JACKSON live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday, May 26.

“I am pleased that ESPNEWS is going to broadcast our UFC 71 weigh-ins,” said Dana White, UFC President. “I am most excited for our fans and for their loyalty to our sport. “ESPNEWS’ live coverage of the UFC 71 weigh-ins reflects the incredible popularity of the UFC and our great athletes.”

ESPNEWS viewers will see each fighter on the UFC 71 main card step on the scale, including Josh Burkman vs. Karo Parisyan; Terry Martin vs. Ivan Salaverry; Keith Jardine vs. Houston Alexander; and Chris Leben vs. Kalib Starnes. Additionally, the 24-hour sports news network will feature an exclusive one on one interview with both “The Iceman” and “Rampage” right after they step on the scale.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship organization is regularly holding events throughout the United States and the United Kingdom. The last three UFC events have broken venue records and overwhelmed sell-out crowds with spectacular fights and surprising upsets. There are five live UFC events lined up now through July, with a dozen more planned before the end of 2007, and full lineup of fights around the globe, including Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, Japan, Australia and Mexico in 2008.

UFC 71: LIDDELL vs. JACKSON, featuring the mixed martial arts superstar and seemingly unstoppable UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson takes place May 26th at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Liddell will attempt his seventh successful title defense and complete his mission to avenge all of his previous losses.

Superpowers will go head to head when K-1 and UFC veteran and Strikeforce fan favorite, Duane “Bang” Ludwig, faces EliteXC’s British Cage Rage champion, Paul “Semtex” Daley, in a 170-pound limit matchup during “Shamrock vs. Baroni,” live on June 22, at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The mega-MMA fight card, being co-produced by EliteXC and Strikeforce, will be headlined by the long-awaited showdown between former UFC middleweight king, Frank Shamrock, and UFC and Pride veteran, “The New York Badass” Phil Baroni, plus five other explosive bouts airing live on pay-per-view.

At stake during the fight between EliteXC’s Shamrock (strikeforceusa.net, frankshamrock.proelite.com) and Baroni (strikeforceusa.net, philbaroni.proelite.com) will be the vacant Strikeforce world middleweight (185-pound limit) championship.

The matchup between Ludwig (strikeforceusa.net, duaneludwig.proelite.com) and Daley (pauldaley.proelite.com) will be shown to viewers should there be a sufficient amount of time on the telecast following completion of three of the six scheduled Pay-Per-View card fights.

“It will be a tough fight for sure,” said the 28-year-old Ludwig of Denver, Colorado, also the reigning International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) World Junior Middleweight (154 lb. limit) Muay Thai Champion. “Both of us bring an action-packed fighting style to the cage so we match up in the crowd’s favor. It will probably be the fight of the night.”

During Strikeforce’s last card at the HP Pavilion on December 8th, Ludwig delivered a near flawless performance as he hammered away relentlessly with his hands and feet at Tony “The Freak” Fryklund (strikeforceusa.net, tonyfryklund.proelite.com). A former member of Team Pat Miletich, Fryklund was impressively resilient until he was sent to the mat for the third time in the fight by a Ludwig right hand, which prompted the referee to stop the bout at the 3:37 mark of the third round.
