H20MAN vs Kengo - Pancrase Ringside Fight  Results

9-29-2002

Yokohama, Japan

Pancrase USA rep. Ty Lynch reports that Ron "H20man" Waterman defeated Japanese superstar Kengo at two minutes, 33 seconds of round one by arm bar submission.  According to Lynch, the fight went exactly as planned by Waterman's trainers Nathan Marquardt and Billy Hendricks; close the distance safely, clinch, takedown, and achieve a full or side mount position.  From there, Ron would punch and setup a win by submission.

This important fight came on short notice.  It was Ron's first professional mixed martial arts bout following a two year hiatus to pursue pro-wrestling with the W.W.E.  Waterman's trainers knew that training time was limited but Ron's great physical condition allowed them to focus only on improving his fighting techniques.  Then, just two weeks ago Waterman detached  the ACL ligament in his right knee while training.  After consulting with three doctors, Ron decided he would go ahead and fight and the rest is history.

Today Waterman proved he is still a major force in the heavy weight division.  His ability to learn and utilize new skills were effectively demonstrated in the fight with Kengo.  Congratulations Ron.

Look Out World....the H20man is back!!!!

LUDWIG Training Report

Denver/Broomfield/Boulder, CO

(Photos by Peter Lockley)

In less than two months, world renowned kickboxer Duane "Bang" Ludwig takes on former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver at the Universal Combat Challenge in Montreal, Canada. This fight is a huge opportunity for Ludwig, a win over "Little Evil"  would immediately propel him to the top of the 155lb. mixed martial arts division.

Since accepting the fight, Ludwig has worked hard to refine his already formidable skills.  Ludwig's trainer Nate Marquardt, a 3-times King of Pancrase, has developed a training program focused on the effective integration of several new ground fighting strategies.

Trainer Marquardt says Ludwig has an excellent chance of taking the title.  Marquardt thinks the key to success is being well-rounded, and the confidence to utilize new techniques in the heat of battle.

Marquardt North Carolina Seminar Review

6-29-2002

Denver, CO

"I just wanted to let you know what his seminar was like..."

"Nate's game is so sic it is unreal. On top of it all he is a really cool guy who doesn't hold back tech. I've been to other seminars where the BB was only interested in teaching what they wanted. Nate asked each and every person there what they wanted to train on, went around and coached, and then he rolled with every person there at least once (and more if you wanted).

He showed more techs than I will ever remember, I saw subs and sweeps that I have never seen before (I've been training 2+ years so I'm not new to the sport). The only other guy I've trained with that was this free with tech was Chris Brennan. It was incredible.

He also talked to us about his fight prep (Nate is the first middle weight K.O.P. and has defended his title 2 times), what he does to train other than sparing/drilling), what his background was, etc..

I can't say enough about this guy, his teaching ability, or how low the cost was for the seminar. Those of you who missed this missed one hell of a deal!!!

On top of everything else this guy is 23 years old!!!!!! He is the youngest King of Pancrase EVER!! Can you imagine how sick his game is going to be in 10 years?"

- Nick Nelson...........

"I hosted the seminar knowing that my guys could benefit from Nate's knowledge, experience, and general athletic ability. Hell, it's good for all of us to see the level that people can attain with a lot of hard work.

Nate has definitely done his hard work. I used to work out with him in Colorado and he was great. Now, he is absolutely EXCEPTIONAL!!! When I left Colorado, he was already the King of Pancrase and I can't believe how much he has improved since then.

The fact that he is so personable and willing to share is just icing on the cake. Nate is a great role model for the sport!"

- Jerry "No Shame" Roeder USMC.............
